Hanover Township Fire District No. 2 is desirous of hiring eligible candidate(s) for the position of Career Fire Fighter / Emergency Medical Technician. This is an excellent opportunity for both qualifying members of the public and our current volunteer employees to step into a rewarding career serving our community.
The Role
As a career member of the department, you will be at the forefront of our emergency response and community safety efforts. Daily responsibilities span a wide range of duties, including responding to emergency incidents, enforcing the International Fire Code: New Jersey Edition, and engaging in public education and community risk reduction initiatives. Additionally, the role involves the general maintenance of our facility, grounds, apparatus, and equipment, along with essential clerical work.
The District is a combination department and career members will be expected to work with, and have the support of, volunteer responders in the completion of the above tasks.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking self-motivated, disciplined individuals with a proven track record of being reliable and honest. Due to the demanding nature of shift work and emergency response, candidates must possess strong decision-making abilities, self-confidence under pressure, and excellent leadership and teamwork qualities.
Key Qualifications Include:
- U.S. citizenship or legal residency, and eligibility for the New Jersey Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS). This includes being under the age of 35 by the date of appointment.
- A valid State of New Jersey Driver’s License and good moral character, with no criminal convictions involving moral turpitude.
- New Jersey Division of Fire Safety Firefighter 1 Certification and Level 1 Incident Management Certification.
- State of New Jersey Certified EMT or NREMT certification, alongside a current CPR certification.
- Valid CEVO (Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operators) or EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) certification.
- Proficiency with computer operations, including database entry and programs like Office 365 and First Due.
Note: The successful candidate will be asked to obtain a Division of Fire Safety Certification as a Fire Inspector within eighteen (18) months of appointment. Post-appointment, you must also become a District Certified Fire Apparatus Operator (within 24 months) and a Certified Water Rescue Technician at some time during your career.
Compensation and Benefits
Hanover Township Fire District No. 2 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
- Starting Salary: $50,011.36 ($52,011.36 with Inspector certification).
