2023 Fire District Election | Saturday 2.18.2023

The Hanover Township Fire District # 2 (Whippany Fire Department) will be holding its annual Fire Commissioner election and 2023 proposed budget approval on Saturday, February 18 at the Whippany Fire House from 2PM to 9PM.

The Board of Fire Commissioners is committed to an open and transparent process. The Fire District is governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners who the registered voters of the Whippany elect. Each year, the board is responsible for submitting a budget to the State of New Jersey for review and approval. In accordance with New Jersey State Law, the budget is presented to the voters of Whippany on the third Saturday in February between the hours of 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM for a vote. Election of Fire Commissioners also occurs at this time.

The Board of Fire Commissioners is responsible for establishing administrative policies, hiring and appointing members, and funding the operations of the Fire District within the guidelines and statutes of the State of New Jersey. The board, as public officials, must follow all of the rules promulgated for public agencies.

The Commissioners of the Fire District have the powers, duties, and functions within the district for preventing and extinguishing fires and regulating fire hazards to the same extent as a municipality. The Board can perform only those acts for which expressed or implied authority exists in law or in the rules and regulations stemming therefrom. The Board assumes the district’s final legal, ethical, moral, and financial responsibility in accordance with New Jersey Statutes.
