This morning the Whippany Fire and the Cedar Knolls Fire Department’s were dispatched to a report of black smoke coming from the residence at approx. 8:30am this morning. The fire quickly spread to a two-alarm blaze which devastated a home in the Whippany section of Hanover.

There are reports of significant damage on the second floor and extensive smoke damage on the first floor. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The below freezing temperatures hindered firefighters’ efforts as the water quickly froze.

Responding mutual aid departments were called in from Morris Plains, Morris Township, Madison and Florham Park.

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management, Morris Minute Men EMS, and emergency medical staff from the Cedar Knolls Fire Department also responded to the blaze. A special request for the county mobile ambulance bus was requested which served as a warm rehabilitation area for firefighters.

No injuries were reported. Our thoughts are with the homeowners as they go through this difficult time.
